Description

The Merchandise Planner is responsible for building a business units annual plan by analyzing multiple years of history and partnering with the merchants to translate their strategies into executable metrics. Throughout the year, the Merchandise Planner responsibilities include developing monthly forecasts that comprehend and explain the variations from plans experienced in sales, margin, markdowns and inventory. The Planner is also responsible for producing analytics that identify areas of both opportunity and risk in the business; and working with merchant teams and other functional partners to review these opportunities/risks and developing strategies to address. The Planner will also work with operational partners on sourcing and distribution of product. We are looking for an individual who is motivated, skilled in developing and presenting analytics, and has a strong grasp of planning and forecasting principles.

Position Responsibilities:

Building annual plans that reflect multiple years of historical trends, evaluation of merchant initiatives, and granular level analytics.

Creating monthly sales, margin, markdowns and inventory forecasts, while identifying variances from planned levels and working with merchants to recommend and execute strategies to address.

Producing ad hoc reporting to reveal emerging trends in the business.

Work with merchants and relevant operational teams to ensure the timely flow of product.

Maintaining strong relationships with business partners buyers, supply chain managers, allocators, and others.

Essential Functions

• Proficiency with retail math.

• A proven history of using strong analytic skills to solve problems and drive results.

• Go beyond the numbers – willingness to work with operational partners on execution.

• Mid- to high-level Excel skills.

• Excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• 5 or more years of planning experience with a large, multi-unit retailer.

• A Bachelor’s degree is required.
